Alex Melo
The Story

Bem-vindo.
Welcome to the work.

My path into coaching didn't start in a gym — it started on a karate mat in Brazil. A black belt and a South American championship later, I learned what real training does: it builds capability. Then it builds confidence. Then it changes how you move through the rest of your life.

I went on to earn my Master's in Kinesiology, spent years working at one of the top training facilities in the country, and have now spent 20+ years one-on-one with clients — from absolute beginners to professional athletes, from rehab cases to people simply trying to stay strong for the years ahead.

ATeam Fitness is the studio that grew out of that work. Private, focused, and built around a single idea: every body is different, and every program should be too.

Where It Started

From the karate mat to the rack.

Karate gave me my first real lesson in training: discipline isn't punishment, it's freedom. Years on the mat in Brazil — earning the black belt, competing through to a South American championship — shaped how I see every client now.

Movement quality, balance under load, breath, intent. The fundamentals don't change whether you're throwing a kick or breaking a deadlift PR. That foundation is what I bring to every session.

How I Coach

The Philosophy

Built from two decades of trial, error, and tens of thousands of hours under the bar — alongside real people, with real bodies, working through real life.

01

Science Over Hype

Every program decision has a reason behind it. You'll know what you're doing and why — because informed clients get better results.

02

Form Over Ego

Heavy weight done poorly will eventually break you. Build the movement first, then build the load. That's the order. Always.

03

Longevity Over Vanity

I want you strong at 80. The aesthetics take care of themselves when the training is built for the long game.

04

Recovery Is Training

Mobility, sleep, nutrition, deload weeks. The unsexy work that lets the visible work compound year after year.

05

The Individual First

Your shoulder. Your knee. Your schedule. Your goal. Off-the-shelf programs don't fit real bodies. So we don't run them.

06

Show Up. Repeat.

The single most underrated skill in fitness is consistency. My job is to build a program you'll actually keep showing up for.
